Trepat is a red-wine grape variety indigenous to northeastern Spain. It is most conspicuous in the sparkling rosado (rosé) Cavas of the region but may also be used in red-wine blends along with Garnacha and Tempranillo. The variety is authorized for use in the clean-tasting sparkling pink Cava wines alongside the classic white Cava varieties: Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo. In practice, many rosado Cavas are 100-percent Trepat, as the grape has proved adept at making fresh, berry-flavored sparkling wines on its own.
